Max Brown

Max Calley Brown, age 64, of Arkadelphia, passed from this life on Monday, August 15, 2022, near Arkadelphia. 

He was born September 27, 1957, in Gurdon, the son of the late Thomas Alfred and Audrey Calley Brown. Max was a 1975 graduate of Gurdon High School. He owned and operated Max Brown Insurance Agency in Arkadelphia for many years. Max was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Gurdon, a longtime member of CMA prison ministry, and a past board member of Boys & Girls Club and Pregnancy Resource Center.

He enjoyed visiting area churches and attending Trinity Temple with his grandbabies. Max enjoyed playing golf, riding his tractor, keeping up with the honey-do-list, playing with his grandbabies and talking smack.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin and life long best friend, Garry (Goob) Marshall.

Max is survived by his wife, Kelli Sowell Lancaster of Arkadelphia; one son, Corey Brown (Shelby) of Arkadelphia; one stepson, Zeke Lancaster (Alia) of Waldorf, Md.; one sister, Dinah Lou Buck (David) of Gurdon; four grandchildren, Max, Ruby Jo and Nora Belle Brown of Arkadelphia and Louise Lancaster of Waldorf, Md.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Third Street Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Mays officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Third Street Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Rose Hedge Cemetery at Gurdon.

Pallbearers are Lonnie Jackson, Jackie Smith, Dennis Tuggle, John Barentine, David Bell, David White and Taylor King.
