Nearly a week after a multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 30, Arkansas State Police have identified the final two people who died and released the initial cause of the accident. The first of the three who died was identified late last week in a separate report.

According to a preliminary fatal crash summary, the June 8 accident at the 85 westbound mile-marker, in Hot Spring County, was the result of “heavy rain and a traffic backup prior to a previous accident.”

The report names the deceased as Anthony Peoples, 52, of Hot Springs, and Horace Butcher, 82, of Hensley.

The report goes on to name 12 others who were injured and transported to area hospitals. The summary indicates that at least 20 vehicles were involved in the overall scene.

The injured, according to the report, were taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, and the bodies were being held at the Hot Spring County Coroner’s Office.

Weather and road conditions were listed as heavy rain and wet, respectively, according to Trooper Jackson Daniell who investigated the accident.
