Maxine Simpson was born on February 3, 1955, in Prescott. She was the daughter of Holman Johnson and Ruth Simpson. She was a 1973 graduate of Gurdon High School.
Maxie was a longtime employee of Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center. For more than 25 years she served as a caregiver. She modeled the scripture Galatians 5:22-23, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
She made friends with families and residents all while maintaining close ties with other staff and the administration. She was a beloved jewel of Twin Rivers who never met a stranger.
In her spare time, she could be found huddled away with a newspaper or word search book. She always kept up with the latest current events and possessed a wealth of knowledge. Her all-time favorite show was the “Golden Girls” and there was never an episode that she didn’t know. Above all she was a loving mother. Although, miles apart and in her own unique way, she kept up with Jason’s successes and achievements. When her health failed, she moved closer to Jason and her boys were her life.
Maxine lived a full life, she loved while she lived and managed her life as a testament of God’s grace. She passed from this life on May 9, 2022, with Jason and Mechiel at her side.
She leaves her son, Jason Simpson; and her grandson, Jaymon Jace Simpson, both of Elkins; and a god-daughter, Mechiel LeBlue. She also leaves six aunts, Dorothy Boga of Arkadelphia, Ethel Gilliam of Sacramento, Calif., Willie Mae Woodson of Arkadelphia, Charlene Adams of Arkadelphia, Lonnie Gould of Arkadelphia; one uncle, Delton (Shanna) Simpson of Arkadelphia; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and a community of friends who will forever miss her caring nature, love and smile.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 16, at Williams Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, at St. Paul AME Church with Rev. T. W. Scott officiating. Interment will be at Vaden Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Eason, Cameron Dickerson, Marcus Wright, Raymond Govan Jr. and Keshawn Buckley.
