
Kitty Bernadine Robertson Ross Holland, age 97, formerly of Arkadelphia, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, in Victoria, Texas, where she lived the last 15 years with her daughter, Pana.
Kitty was the youngest of four girls raised on a large wheat farm in Creston, Wash. As a registered nurse in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp during World War II, she met her husband, Dr. Wallis A. Ross. She and Dr. Ross later raised their family, built a home on Martindale Hill Road and cared for the people of Arkadelphia for many years until his death in 1972.
Kitty later married Ernest “Hotsy” Holland and together they operated Holland’s House of Fashion. Kitty was an excellent seamstress, cook and bridge partner. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Arkadelphia. She served as the mayor of Arkadelphia from 1989 – 1996.
As a loving and supportive mother and grandmother, she had high expectations of her children. She was a Boy/Girl Scout den mother for many years promoting the values of integrity and personal growth.
Kitty was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Wallis A. Ross; her second husband, Wiley E. Holland of Arkadelphia; her parents, Charles and Ethel Barnhart Robertson; her sisters, Genevieve Striegal, Naomi DeBord and Elaine Bean of Creston, Wash.
Survivors are sons, Charles Ross of Arkadelphia, Rick (Janet) Ross of Benton; and daughter, Pana Ross Breazeale of Victoria, Texas; stepchildren, Alan (Ruthie) Holland and Ann (David) Holland Lyp of Little Rock; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A family graveside memorial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be posted at Rosewood Funeral Home in Victoria, TX. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
