
E. B. Green, age 81 of Joan (Clark County), died Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his home. He was born in Clark County on December 7, 1940 to the late Enis Benton Green, Sr. and Coy Dean Hudson Green. Reared and educated in Clark County, he played all sports, and was particularly fond of basketball. In later years he officiated high school games, and was Little League baseball chief umpire for many years in Malvern. E. B. was a member of the Baptist faith, and attended Bethlehem Methodist Church after moving back to his home community in 1988 to run Green’s Grocery. He started his first job in 1958 with Coca Cola in Little Rock, worked at the local textile mill, worked at Malvern Hardware for a few years, and at Clem Wholesale Grocers in sales for 17 years, and ran the community grocery store at Joan, where he grew up. He retired as his health began to fail.
E. B. is survived by his wife, Virginia Cash Green, of the home, to whom he was married on September 16, 1961; his son, Paul Wayne Green and his wife, Carol Pierce Green of Joan; his daughter, Janet Cecile Efird and her husband William of Donaldson; brother, William Green of Arkadelphia; grandchildren, Dr. Nathan Green and his wife, Shelby of Little Rock, Caitlin Green of Benton, and Clay Doherty and his wife, Kayla of El Dorado; two great-granddaughters, Cami and Kimber Doherty; by several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Cook and Sara Hughes.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 Saturday morning, February 12, 2022 at Bethlehem Cemetery in Joan, with Sister Peggy Abbott officiating, and under the direction of J.A. Funk Funeral Home. There will be a time to visit with the family after the service.
Pallbearers will be: David Green, Ray Hughes, Jr. (Tinker), David Elrod, Johnny Conzel, Rodney Walker, and William Earls.
Honorary pallbearers are: William Green, Kenneth Cash, Bob Cash, Gary Vanderslice, L. B. Brashears, and Russell Hart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
