ARKADELPHIA — The Ouachita Baptist University women’s soccer team travels to Weatherford, Oklahoma this week to defend its Great American Conference Tournament Championship from last season.

The Tigers won the 2020-21 GAC tournament title this past April after the season was rescheduled to the spring due to COVID-19. Last season’s tournament was held on Oklahoma Baptist University’s campus in Shawnee. The Tigers beat Southern Nazarene in the semifinals 3-0, and then beat the host Oklahoma Baptist 1-0 in overtime in the finals.

This season, Ouachita has recorded its third consecutive winning season with a 9-6-2 overall record and a 6-5-1 record in GAC games. The Tigers rattled off six wins in a row from mid-September to early October, five of those six wins coming in conference games.

Ouachita is the No. 4 seed in this year’s tournament, and will face off against the regular season champion and tournament host Southwestern Oklahoma State (12-5-1, 10-1-1) in the opening round on Thursday, November 11 at 2 p.m. SWOSU won both of the regular season meetings against the Tigers.

The other half of the bracket is No. 2 seed Oklahoma Baptist facing No. 3 seed Northwestern Oklahoma State. The winners of the opening round games will meet in the championship game on Sunday, November 13 at 11 a.m. in Weatherford with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II tournament.
