ARKADELPHIA — The Ouachita Baptist University women’s soccer team beat East Central 2-1 on Saturday in the regular season finale on a golden goal with 20 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.

The Tigers (9-6-2, 6-5-1 GAC) defeated East Central (3-11-2, 2-8-2) in the same fashion on October 17 in Ada, Okla., with a golden goal from Gracen Turner with 22 seconds remaining.

Saturday’s golden goal came from Alexis Perry, who rebounded her own shot off the goal post and knocked in the second effort for the win. It was her sixth goal of the season.

ECU struck first on Saturday with a goal in the seventh minute, which wasn’t answered by Ouachita until the second half in the 60th minute with a goal from Shanley Rogers from Alexis Perry. It was Rogers’ first career goal.

Ouachita honored a pair of seniors, Asha Samson and Makenna Kager, prior to Saturday’s game, their final home games in Arkadelphia. Samson is set to graduate this December with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science. She plans on pursuing a master’s degree in occupational therapy. Kager will graduate in May of 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Following graduation, she plans on entering a program to become a physician assistant.

The Tigers have qualified for the Great American Conference Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by Southwestern Oklahoma State University next weekend, November 11-13.
