Felony charges were filed this week against an Arkadelphia man accused attacking an elderly person with a golf club during a home invasion.
Jermaine Jenkins, 26, is charged with aggravated residential burglary. Jenkins allegedly attacked a 71-year-old man inside his Austin Street home on the morning of Dec. 11, 2023.
Jenkins was accompanying someone who minutes earlier had called the victim to borrow money, according to documents filed this week in Clark County Circuit Court. The person who called stayed inside a vehicle while Jenkins, armed with a golf club, entered a back door and struck the resident “numerous times” during an altercation.
In an interview with investigators at the Arkadelphia Police Department, the victim said he had heard someone at his back door but expected it to be the female asking for cash. He opened the door, instead encountering Jenkins, who “was demanding money.”
Jenkins reportedly fled the scene after the attack. The victim was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia, and later to UAMS in Little Rock, where he received treatment to facial fractures and lacerations.
Police located Jenkins the day after the attack. Questioned about the incident, he admitted having a golf club but denied using it against the resident, saying he only struck him with his hands, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Jenkins was arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center. Jenkins later posted bond, which was set at $100,000.
