Lawrence leads men’s cross country to runner-up finish

SEARCY — The Ouachita Baptist University men’s cross country team came in second at the Steve Guymon Invitational on Friday, hosted by Harding University.

Whitt Lawrence led the Tigers with a third place finish at a time of 20:44.3. Ouachita had five of the top 10 finishers, and eight in the top 20.

In addition to Lawrence, Cade Swindle (21:25.5) came in seventh, Lawson Sanders (21:33.6) came in eighth, Josh Tibbs (21:34.8) came in ninth, and Luke Lawson (21:39) rounded out Ouachita’s top 10 performers in 10th place.

Harding was the overall first place team with 30 points and average time of 21:03, followed by Ouachita at 38 points and an average of 21:24. Fellow Great American Conference member Southern Arkansas finished a distant third with 60 points. This was Ouachita’s second straight runner-up team finish to start the season.

Ouachita is back in action at home on October 1 for the Tiger Invitational. ​
