“Burn bans are very common in the late summer in Arkansas due to extremely dry conditions,” said Arkadelphia Fire Chief Jason Hunt.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the damages were caused by straight-line winds or a downburst.
What started as a single but gnarly accident Saturday morning on Interstate 30 led to a chain reaction of car wrecks that left traffic on the highway stalled for 3.5 hours.
What were likely straight-line winds swept through the Arkadelphia area early Sunday morning, pushing trees over roadways and onto at least one home.
City and county officials plan to use ClarkArk Alerts to deliver emergency and non-emergency notifications to county residents and employees.
