Every five years Clark County has to update its Hazard Mitigation Plan. The purpose of hazard mitigation planning is to reduce loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters.
It begins with local governments identifying natural disaster risks and vulnerabilities that are common in their area. After identifying these risks, they develop long-term strategies for protecting people and property from similar events.
An up-to-date Hazard Mitigation Plan is needed for jurisdictions to apply for grants. Examples of these are bridge projects and community safe rooms.
