Annie Rucks

Annie Mae Washington Holmes Rucks was born on May 27, 1953, in Yazoo City, Mississippi to LC and Bessie Mae Holmes. Annie was raised in Clarksdale, Mississippi by her grandparents CW and Annie Mae Thomas.

Annie accepted Christ into her life at a very early age. Annie attended and graduated from Clarksdale High School. Annie was a member of St. Clair Missionary Baptist Church as a child.

She was united in holy matrimony to Johnny Rucks in 1972. She moved to Arkansas and remained by his side until he transitioned on May 29, 2015. Together they built a beautiful home and life in Sparkman, Arkansas.

Annie was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She held several positions with a joyful heart and love throughout the community. These positions were as a Foster Parent, the Macedonia Mission President, Assistance Finance Clerk for Macedonia, Interim Deaconess, Sunday School Secretary, Treasurer for Sparkman Community Mission, Vice- President of Greater Bradley District Lay Worker, member of Sparkman Sawmill Festival Committee, Sparkman Disaster Outreach, Dallas County Voter Registration worker and companion for Elmore Wiley.

Annie was a proud servant of the Lord and gave her time and love wholeheartedly in the community. Annie worked all her life up until her final days. Some of the jobs Annie had throughout her life consisted of multiple sewing industries, Foster Parent, Area on Aging as a senior companion. For more than 10 years she worked at Dawson Coop Grandparent program, Sparkman Learning Center and Peake School.

On September 30, 2026, the Lord called Annie home to reunite with her husband Johnny Rucks. She was preceded in death were her parents LC and Bessie Holmes; her brothers, Leonard Holmes, Jessie Holmes, and Linute Charles Holmes “Jr”.; her grandparents, CW and Annie Mae Thomas.

A lifetime of memories will be forever felt by her beloved children: Dr. Lashunda (Reginald) Dickerson of Arkadelphia, AR, Michelle (Walter) Jones of Bryant, AR, Jonathan (Naporsha) Rucks of Benton, AR, and Courtney (Myron) Horton of Arkadelphia, Ar. Her cherished grandchildren, DeReka (Felecia) Graham, Marte Donahue, Cornelius Gregory, Christopher Gregory, DaVenta’ Gregory, Jaylon Jones, Jamari Jones, Tiara Ollison, Laila Rucks, Mikelle Rucks, Brielle McDaniel, Demarco Britton, Hazel Horton and Ca’Ron Horton; her precious great-grandchildren, Alora Gregory, LeeKinley Gregory, Willow Gregory, Adrianna Ellison, Zaires Jones, Zakai Jones, Ziya Jones, Brooklynn Donahue, Marte Donahue Jr, Kingston Donahue, I’brionna Donahue, and Prynceston Donahue; precious bonus grandchildren, Armando Fuentes, and Jose Fuentes.

She also leaves her dear Aunt Corrine Ross; her brothers, Willie Holmes and Leroy Holmes; her sister, Mary Alice Holmes; sisters-in-law, Linda (Charlie) Matlock, Loraine (Hosea) Walker Sr, Paula Rucks, and Essie Dogbe. She leaves special friends, Mrs. Bobbie Walker, Ms. Margaret Johnson, Ms. Opal Blevins, Ms. Francis Blevins, Mrs. Jeanette Carter, Mrs. Girth, Ms. Everett, Ms. Corrine Johnson, Ms. Clara Dixson, and Ms. Jerbraylen Barrett. Lastly, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
