The Camden Police Department is discontinuing its contractural agreement with Flock Safety, the city’s acting police chief announced.
Flock provides automated license plate reader technology to police departments throughout the nation.
“After reviewing the contractural relationship and concerns regarding transparency and discrepancies associated with the company and its services, I believe it’s in the best interest of the City of Camden and the citizens we serve to terminate the agreement,” interim Police Chief Cortney Parker said in a news release dated Sept. 25. “I have a responsibility to ensure that the technology and services utilized by our department operate with transparency, accountability, and in a manner that maintains the public’s trust.”
The Flock Safety cameras will remain in place in Camden until the contract ends and Flock coordinates their removal, Parker said. Until then, they will be covered and not used by CPD.
“This decision does not change our commitment to public safety,” Parker continued. “The men and women of the Camden Police Department will continue working diligently to protect our community, investigate criminal activity and provide the level of service that the citizens of Camden expect and deserve.”
