Dangerous heat will return late this weekend with near-record high temperatures and very warm overnight lows, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
A large area of Major Heat Risk will be noted across Arkansas on Sunday, July 26, as high temperatures statewide are forecast near or to exceed the century mark. In addition, dangerous heat index values will be observed between 105-115 degrees across much of the state.
The extended forecast for the Arkadelphia area calls for near-average temperatures until Sunday, with daily highs in the low- to mid-90s and nighttime temps dipping to the low 70s. Sunday will be sunny and hot, with a high near 97 and a heat index in the triple digits. Daytime highs through Wednesday of next week will be near 100, with heat index values tipping the mercury well over the 100-degree mark.
A Major Heat Risk affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Anyone with outdoor activities scheduled during the day should consider rescheduling. It is imperative to stay hydrated and in a cool place.
