Area families are invited to take part in a free children’s fishing event this weekend in Gurdon.
Organized by 4 to 4 Ever Inc. and sponsored by the Cabe Foundation, the fifth annual Pond Hopper Nation Children’s Fishing Derby will take place Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Gurdon Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The first 100 children ages 4 to 16 who attend will receive a free fishing rod and reel, if needed. Educational activities will be set up for kids to learn about fishing, boating and conservation. Food will be served at the conclusion of the derby, and a devotion will take place afterward.
Children will have an opportunity to spin a wheel for a prize.
The derby coincides with the Free Fishing Weekend, which takes place June 12-14 and is promoted by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission.
