A Clark County man lost his life late Thursday in a deadly vehicle-vs-pedestrian incident.
Sheriff Jason Watson confirmed that dispatchers received a 911 call from a driver at 10:39 p.m. on March 19, 2026. The caller reported they had struck an individual on Arkansas Highway 53 near its junction with Sloan Road.
First responders arrived to discover a white male at the scene who had succumbed to his injuries.
Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia posted a death notice of 36-year-old Chessland Ward Fensler, of Gurdon.
Arkansas State Police is investigating the accident.
A preliminary fatal crash summary posted by ASP says that Fensler was walking in the eastbound lane of traffic when he was struck by an eastbound Jeep Grand Cherokee. The report does not name the driver of the SUV.
