The Arkadelphia Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution announced the 5th grade winners of the annual American History Essay Contest.
First Place was awarded to Vivian Neal, daughter of Jay and Christa Neal, for her essay titled “Lunch with Benjamin Franklin”
Second Place went to Ester Copeland, daughter of Donnie and Lori Copeland, for an essay titled “Lunch with Benjamin Franklin”
Third Place was awarded to Bethanie Brown, daughter of Savannah Dickerson, for her essay titled “Lunch with John Hancock”
Essays were created based on the topic for 2025-2026: America will celebrate her 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. If you could go back in time and meet one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence for lunch, who would you choose? How did their actions and service contribute to our Country becoming independent?
After reading their essays to Chapter members and family guests, each student received a certificate, cash award, and gift bag. First place winner, Vivian Neal, also received a medal.
After the presentation of awards, a time of refreshments followed.
Donna Hays serves as Chairman of the Chapter American History Committee and Chapter Regent is Terry Hagood.
