Just when you thought spring was here for good, a brief cold snap will send a reminder that it’s still officially winter.
The National Weather Service’s extended forecast for the Arkadelphia area is calling for a low of a cold 29 degrees come Monday night, March 16.
Ahead of the below-freezing temperature, nightly lows this week will act as a primer to acclimate us to Monday’s winter-like chill. After showers and thunderstorms linger across Southwest Arkansas on Wednesday, wind gusts will be as high as 20 mph Wednesday night, with a low of around 37.
Thursday’s daytime high will be a cool 61 under sunny skies, and through Sunday daily highs will return to the 70s and mid-70s.
The extended forecast includes nighttime lows of 38 Thursday, 43 Friday, 54 Saturday and 34 Sunday.
While March marks the beginning of meteorological spring, the 2026 season doesn’t become official until the spring equinox on Friday, March 20, when the sun crosses the celestial equator going south to north, according to almanac.com. Daylight will then increase each day until the summer solstice in June.
