Arkadelphia man accused of shooting at woman and 2-year-old
An Arkadelphia man faces several felony charges after reports that he shot into a vehicle occupied by a female and her 2-year-old child.
On the afternoon of May 18, 2025, the Arkadelphia Police Department was dispatched to Powder Mill Apartments, 2801 Twin Rivers Dr., for a report of gunshots. En route, a witness told dispatchers they saw a silver SUV leaving the parking lot after the shots were fired.
An officer located the vehicle at 26th and Pine streets and conducted a traffic stop on a female. Upset and crying, she relayed that Joshua Michael Collins, 24, had shot at her as she fled the apartment complex following an unexpected visit from Collins.
An officer observed a bullet hole in the rear cargo door of the vehicle, as well as a shattered back glass. The woman’s 2-year-old child was in the vehicle.
She said that she had returned home from grocery shopping when she opened her apartment door to find Collins, whom she knows, inside. An argument ensued, with Collins reportedly demanding the female come inside the apartment. Afraid, she dropped her belongings at the door — including her purse and phone — and fled to her vehicle.
Collins reportedly followed her to the parking lot where, as she drove away, he pointed a gun at her and fired the weapon. Authorities served Collins with an arrest warrant on May 20, according to court records. He was being held on $85,000 bond.
A previous conviction for charges involving a firearm prohibits Collins from possessing a gun. In addition to possession of a firearm by a certain person, Collins is also charged with two counts of terroristic acts, each a Class B felony, as well as endangering the welfare of a minor, in this case a Class D felony. If convicted on all counts, Collins faces 15 to 60 years in prison and/or fines totaling up to $55,000.
Amity man jailed after harassing ARDOT crew
A highway crew’s presence drew the ire of an Amity man to the point he began tossing caution signs to the side of the road.
On the morning of June 18, 2025, police were called to a disturbance at 346 North Hill St., Amity, where the caller reported that Ricky Ray Provence Jr. was arguing with Arkansas Department of Transportation workers and tossing their road signs down the hill.
Amity Police Chief Garry “BJ” Johns made contact with road crew employees, who relayed that they couldn’t begin their job on account of Provence throwing the signs, and because they kept having to watch over their shoulders due to his demeanor.
Johns made contact with Provence, 23, and questioned his why he was throwing the signs. “Because I want to,” Provence reportedly replied. “I don’t like their lights.” Provence went on to allegedly make death threats toward Johns if he attempted to make an arrest.
A deputy responded to the scene and took Provence into custody for transport to the Clark County Detention Center. En route to the jail, Provence also made death threats to the deputy and his family, as well as threatening to install a car bomb on his patrol car, according to an affidavit filed separately from the incident with Johns.
Provence was held on a $50,000 bond. He is charged with two counts of terroristic threatening, each a Class D felony that carries a prison term of up to 6 years and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
2 charged in burglaries
An Arkadelphia man faces charges connected to a pair of thefts, one of which was carried out with an accomplice who’s also charged with felonies.
The case against 19-year-old Cam’ron Giles started on May 16, 2025, when authorities were summoned to Shields Wood Products, 97 Arkansas Highway 51, for a complaint of a firearm that had been stolen from an employee’s truck.
Deputies learned through a conversation with the mill owner, Ritchie Shields, that the employee had given Giles a lift to the establishment for a job inquiry. Upon leaving the mill office, Shields saw Giles take something from the employee’s vehicle and questioned him; Giles replied that he was getting a cigar from the truck. Once Giles left on foot, the employee was called to inspect his vehicle for anything missing and immediately noticed that a pistol was gone.
Through investigations police learned from text messages that Giles had possession of the firearm. A police affidavit does not indicate whether the stolen firearm was recovered.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office launched another burglary investigation — this one on the opposite side of town — on May 28, when a resident of Colonial West Apartments reported the theft of two Xbox gaming consoles and controllers, two flatscreen TVs and some shoes.
Video surveillance of the area showed two males, donning hoodies, coming from the south side of the building and stashing items in a vehicle before driving away from the area. The victims were able to identify one of the suspects as Kevon Guderian Stewart, 23.
Detectives used Leads Online to discover that Stewart had sold the aforementioned stolen goods to Arkadelphia Pawn and Gun, which provided surveillance footage of two men selling the items. Police were able to identify the driver, who was brought in for questioning; he identified Stewart and Giles as the individuals who pawned the stolen items.
Police caught up with Giles on May 29 and took him into custody. Stewart was arrested June 4. Stewart’s bond was set at $35,000, and Giles’s bond was set at $45,000.
For the Colonial West case, both Giles and Stewart are charged with breaking or entering and theft of property valued between $1,000-$5,000, both Class D felonies punishable by imprisonment for a term of up to 6 years and/or a fine of up to $10,000. For the Shields case, Giles is additionally charged with breaking or entering and theft of a firearm, also Class D felonies.
Representation from the Clark County Public Defenders Office entered not guilty please for both men at an arraignment held July 1.
