Bits & Pieces: Devil in the Ozarks

Though we’ve not reported any news related to Grant Hardin’s escape from a prison in North Arkansas, we’re certain by now that our news-hungry readers are familiar with the details, which by now have made headlines nationwide. We spent a portion of our Thursday evening taking in a documentary, “Devil in the Ozarks,” that tells the jaw-dropping story of Hardin’s law enforcement career in the Rogers area, as well as the rape and murder cases that sent him to prison. This guy is a crazed lunatic, and we hope he’s caught sooner than later, and that his capture (and time on the lam) will be without further bloodshed. We found “Devil in the Ozarks” streaming on HBO Max. If you have the means, we encourage you to watch it. And while the odds may be slim that he’s among us in Arkadelphia, one never knows — keep your doors locked, and be vigilant. The FBI had doubled its reward offering Friday to $20,000.

You might recall a brief mention in the last column of getting our vehicle stuck between a mud slick and a downed tree ahead of the Memorial Day weekend. We later learned that we’d been accused of talking to ourselves. Though we’re often guilty of the offense, this time one of our camp neighbors observed Yours Truly using a Bluetooth ear pod during a phone conversation with The Spouse as he walked through camp, and told another camp neighbor that “Joe was walking around talking to himself.”

A special Thank You to the staff at Baptist Health Medical Center’s Emergency Room for their attention and care for a member of our immediate family this Wednesday night.

Next week we’ll begin tallying results for the Best of the Best Readers Choice. It’s not easy work, but it’s rewarding to see the glee on people’s faces when they get the recognition. The deadline to cast a vote is midnight Friday, May 30.

LK: Bet you don’t find any accidentally omitted information in the next Real Estate report. But we know you’ll inform if we goofed, and we thank you.
