Arms Around Arkadelphia is now signing up volunteers for its 21st annual effort to help deserving families with home repairs.
Thirty-plus projects selected by an organizing committee are planned for the June 9-12 mission effort by Arkadelphia’s First Baptist Church with help from several members of other local churches. Work is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, with an hour off for lunch at FBC.
“Since its beginning in 2004, AAA has completed over 300 projects for families in the Arkadelphia area,” said David McAllister, longtime leader of the effort. “We welcome volunteers of all skill levels to help us add to that number during this year’s event.”
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can complete the online form. Questions and comments are welcome at ArmsAroundArkadelphia@gmail.com. Volunteers can also get more information and sign up by calling the FBC office at 870-246-5587. Organizers understand that some volunteers may be able to join the AAA effort only for a day or two.
Work team projects include painting and replacing doors, windows, bathtubs and floors, plus plumbing, electrical and HVAC repairs. Volunteers will also be cutting and hauling off tree limbs, installing ceiling fans, cleaning up yards and more. Support roles include helping prepare and serve daily lunches for workers and leading brief morning devotionals at the work sites.
The week kicks off with a brief orientation at the church on Monday morning. AAA ends Thursday evening with a barbecue dinner, including entertainment.
Arms Around Arkadelphia is funded by private donations, which can be mailed to FBC at 116 N. 7th St., Arkadelphia, AR 71923. All work is done at no cost to the families served.
