Soldiers of Service Walkathon fundraiser returning to Arkadelphia a third time

The third annual Soldiers of Service Walkathon is set for Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Arkadelphia High School’s Badger Stadium.

The free, family-friendly fundraiser promises fun for all ages.

Proceeds from the event benefit the American Cancer Society.

Gates open at 9 a.m. The opening ceremony, scheduled for 9:45 a.m., will kick off the walkathon and include baptisms, as well as vocal performances by Miss Arkansas and Miss Arkansas Teen.

SOS founder and event organizer Jason McCready said this year there will be performances by Christian musical talent and by praise teams; an arm wrestling tournament for 18 and up and 17 and under; and the Army National Guard will bring a Connect 4 basketball inflatable and host the Army push-up challenge for children and adults.

One special highlight of the event will be the SOS Games, a spinoff of Beast Games, for competitors ages 13 and up. Sixteen raffle tickets will be selected from a drawing. Those 16 competitors will be blindfolded at the 50-yard line while eight coins are sprinkled at random places on the football field. After a countdown, the competitors will remove their blindfolds and rush to find the coins. The eight who get the coins first move onto the next round.

They’ll be blindfolded again and given a dodgeball to hold onto and test their internal time-keeping skills: instructed to drop the ball as close to the 5-minute mark without going over, the four competitors closest to the mark will move onto the next round: a Connect 4 basketball shootout. The final two contestants will then enter a football-tossing challenge, throwing the pigskin into a pair of inflatable receivers at the end zone. Whoever earns the most points wins the competition.

The winner will receive a trophy and a pair of gift cards from Walmart and Brookshire’s, each valued at $250.

Entry to the SOS Walkathon is free, and the community is invited to participate and/or spectate. McCready said the fundraiser, now in its third year, has raised at least $50,000 to date.
