Clark County Retired Teachers heard from Darin Beckwith, director of Dawson Education Service Cooperative, during their April meeting. Beckwith covered several topics related to the many aspects of what Dawson does for the state and how the LEARNS Act is affecting schools.
Beckwith mentioned legislation to extend maternity leave beyond the Family and Medical Leave Act. Some parts of the Learns Act are the $50,000 teacher salary increase, which is a state guarantee for two years and required community service for seniors. These are requirements that may be hardships for smaller districts. Beckwith also explained that Dawson provides workshops for school teachers from several counties.
Katie Brown, Dawson’s communications specialist, acquires funding to show appreciation to teachers, train teachers on how to make graphics, provide Professional Development, and more.
CCRTA also donated $270 to Men United for the Backpack Program.
