John David “Johnny” Points, 70, of Linden, Texas, passed away at his home on Feb. 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Johnny was born on May 10, 1954, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to John Edward and Ina Leona Points. A man of many talents and a heart full of love, Johnny was a gifted musician who could play a number of instruments. He found joy in singing alongside his wife. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he had a special way of making people laugh. Affectionately nicknamed “Uncle Monkey” by his nieces and nephews, he brought joy to everyone around him.
A hardworking man, Johnny loved working with his hands, whether building something new or repairing the well-loved. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and camping. More than anything, he cherished his family and took immense pride in being a “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Johnny was a devoted member of Center Grove Baptist Church, where this faith and community were important to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Todd Points; his brother, Jackie Wayne Points; and his best friend, Tony Whitlow.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Points of Linden; his children, Ella Daniels of El Dorado, Arkansas, Mandy Jester and husband Brandon of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Tammy Hardin of Fouke, Arkansas, and Ricky Ratley of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Elise Points, Aliance Points, Jaxon Jester, Jordan Jester, Heather Dwyer, Haley Hardin, Hanna Hardin, Matthew Ratley, Anna Ratley, and Austin Ratley; and his great-grandchildren, Beckett Shaffer, Luca Brinson, Karsyn Foote, and Tucker Dwyer. He is also survived by his siblings, Joyce McInnis, Donald Points and wife Pat, Gloria June Ables, Anita Faye Reisdorff and husband Bill, and Ricky Points and wife Teresa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who loved him dearly.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dierksen Hospice for the excellent care they provided Johnny in his final days.
