Arkadelphia man charged for throwing ice onto minivan from I-30 overpass

An Arkadelphia man took playing in the snow a little too far when he decided to toss a large hunk of ice from an overpass onto Interstate 30 traffic below. He’s now facing felony charges and prison time.

The ice block struck an eastbound minivan traveling beneath the Country Club Road overpass causing “extensive damage to the vehicle,” according to an affidavit filed by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. The incident happened Jan. 10, 2025, the same day the region was blanketed by snow and sleet.

Asked how large the chunk was, an investigator said it was sizable enough to bust the grill and radiator upon its impact with the vehicle. The minivan contained the driver and five passengers, four of whom are juveniles. An adult passenger has an Arkadelphia address.

The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica exited the interstate at Caddo Valley and drove back to the overpass and onto W.P. Malone Drive, where the occupants located the suspect walking and phoned the Arkadelphia Police Department to report the incident.

An officer responded and made contact with 22-year-old Solomon Dewayne Anna Jr., who lists an address a block east from the overpass. Police body cam footage recorded Anna admitting to throwing the ice from the overpass, the affidavit notes.

Anna didn’t provide a reason for chunking the ice.

Police transported Anna to the Clark County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, first-degree criminal mischief and throwing destructive or injurious materials on a highway, each of which is a felony offense.

Formal charges filed by the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office included the assault and criminal mischief charges, each of which is a Class D felony punishable by up to six years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
