Dr. Louis E. Dawkins passed away on January 29, 2025 in Starkville, Mississippi. He was born September 18, 1937, to parents Lee and Gillis Dawkins in Monticello, Arkansas. Louis is preceded in death by his wife, Anita Ward Dawkins of Monticello, AR and Starkville.
Louis was a retired Professor Emeritus of Accounting from Mississippi State University and Henderson State University, in Arkadelphia, AR. Louis graduated with a PhD in Accounting from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of Arkansas, Monticello. He was a Certified Public Accountant. He served Henderson State on four different occasions as faculty and Dean of the School of Business at Mississippi State. He was a member of the Accounting faculty and served as Director of the Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy on three different occasions and interim Dean of the School of Business. Louis was active in Business and Accounting accreditation at both schools and served as a member of Peer Review Teams evaluating other schools pursuing accreditation.
Louis was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Savage Bible Class in Starkville.
Louis is survived by his son Roben Dawkins of Starkville, MS and Randy Dawkins (wife Dawn) of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Camryn Dawkins McBrayer (husband, Macon) of West Point, MS, Riley Dawkins of Starkville, MS, Sydney Dawkins of Columbus, MS; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Anita Dawkins; sisters, Marion Harris, LaVerne Holloway, Janie Farris, and Dottie Stephenson; and brothers, Glen and Conrad Dawkins.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday February 5, 2025 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.
In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make gifts to the Louis E. Dawkins Endowment in the Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy at Mississippi State University, or the Louis E. Dawkins Scholarship fund at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR.
