A potent storm system will approach from the west on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2024, with showers and thunderstorms becoming likely once again Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
The best chance for severe weather will be across southwestern and south-central sections of the state.
A few strong to severe thunderstorms may be seen, with damaging wind and large hail possible with the strongest thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall could be seen, which may result in isolated flash flooding.
In Arkadelphia, patchy showers and thunderstorms are expected to arrive before 2 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 2-5 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe.
Thursday night, expect showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Up to 2 1/2 inches of rain could fall with Thursday’s storms.
Cloudy skies will continue over the area through the weekend, with scant chances for rain. Skies should clear ahead of a windy Monday, with daytime temperatures approaching 70. The mercury will fall to the near-freezing mark by Tuesday night.
