Apologies that we didn’t have a better title for this column. “Trump Dump” was the first pick, but it seemed a bit cheap. Reading further, don’t expect a filet mignon from this camp, as ground chuck’s on the menu.
We wish President-elect Donald Trump the best in fulfilling his promises to make our country “great again”. He’s got a long road ahead. One of our main wishes is that he, along with his MAGA cohorts, would recognize that the Fourth Estate (the media) deserves a front-row seat in its role of informing the public. The threats of putting reporters in the line of gunfire, should push come to shove, are completely uncalled for. You wouldn’t be where you are today, Mr. Trump, were it not for the media.
In our years of election night coverage we’ve observed that local election results are often leaked to candidates well before they’re made public. Could be that no laws are broken, but the practice doesn’t pass our smell test. Do better, Clark County.
President-elect Donald Trump acknowledged during his victory speech that he’s unfamiliar with the Starlink satellite network, developed by one of his top billionaire supporters, Elon Musk. Just sayin’.
The only U.S. president we’ve ever seen in the flesh has been Joe Biden, and we weren’t impressed (to quote Primus, we weren’t impressed at all!) We had the opportunity to meet Bill Clinton in 2014, but our editor at the time prioritized our birthday plans, seating us instead at a local NAACP banquet. Damn you, Megan!
Let the record reflect that the price of a gallon of unleaded fuel Tuesday afternoon, at our preferred gas station in Arkadelphia, was $2.88. The price of brand-name mayonnaise, at Walmart, was about $6 per 30-oz jar. The federal interest rate was 4.75-5%.
Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee-Sanders was reportedly part of Trump’s watch party. We didn’t see her in any footage we watched. We guess the governess was busy trying to name the new state prison in Charleston. The Sanders Slammer has a nice ring to it.
