Poll: Have you seen the Gurdon Light?

Everyone loves a good scary story around Halloween, right?

Like any typical community in the U.S., Clark County has a couple of legendary spooky stories, like the morbid love saga of The Lady in Black that adds haunting charm to the already unique college town of Arkadelphia.

But one local ghost story put a Clark County town on the map: the Gurdon Light.

Legend has it that a mysterious light, visible at night on an old railroad line just outside of town, is a lantern held by its wandering headless owner, a railroad worker, in search of his lost noggin.

The tale drew attention from the entire country when, in 1994, the phenomenon was documented on the popular national television series Unsolved Mysteries. Skeptics dismiss the Gurdon Light as a product of swamp gas.

Whether fact or fiction, for decades the legend of the Gurdon Light has drawn curious thrill-seekers and haunt-hunters from all over to visit this small Arkansas town of 2,200 residents. We want to know if our readers have ever visited or seen the Gurdon Light in their lifetime. We’ll publish the results on Halloween.
