Arkadelphians:
Our otherwise uneventful Labor Day weekend has taken a very scary turn Monday morning while we were visiting family in Malvern.
My wittle sister Effy found a sizable chunk of rat poison and ate it. When my parents caught her, they immediately started to induce vomiting and called the Poison Control hotline, and learned that Effy ate about twice the lethal dose for her weight!
The only vet clinic we could find that would take her was in Little Rock. The first 24 hours are critical. At the time of this writing — 12 hours after she ate it — she hasn’t shown any of the scary symptoms associated with the poison’s neurological effects.
My People are driving back to Little Rock tonight, when the hospital closes, and they’ll keep a watchful eye on her throughout the night. Tuesday morning they’re taking her back to the pet hospital for more time on an IV.
We appreciate our readers’ patience while we take care of my wittle sister. My Dad will be back at the news desk as soon as he can, but he will need an extra day off work.
Please keep Effy in your thoughts!
