ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — Patterson Credit Union announced Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, that it has started a charitable foundation, The Acorn Project.
The Acorn Project will provide food and other necessities to children throughout Clark County and surrounding communities. Patterson has a long history of working closely with school districts to support faculty, staff and students.
“The very first sponsorship we ever did was for a community event to provide school supplies for students in need. Supporting the school districts and all they do for our local children is a top priority for Patterson,” said Shawn Cowart, Patterson’s President/CEO. “The Acorn Project will provide funding to feed children in need over weekends and breaks from school. The backpack program, as it is often called, has been our main philanthropy for nearly a decade. The Acorn Project will provide a sustainable way to maintain that project. In addition to the backpack program, we will seek new opportunities to support our local children.”
The Acorn Project will allow community partners to help provide our local children with the food and necessities they need to thrive. To get involved, businesses and individuals can choose to make tax deductible donations to the foundation. All money donated to the foundation will be issued as grants to purchase food for the students in need.
Patterson will also set up packing events to organize the food. Businesses and community groups are welcome to participate in the Acorn Project by helping with those events. Those interested in donating, hosting a packing night, or learning more can contact Nicole McGough at Patterson Credit Union.
