ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — Walnut Street at 10th and Highway 67 will be closing for a year to facilitate progress on the Arkadelphia Bypass Project.
The closure will affect those living on Wade Street and along Walnut Street between 10th and Highway 67. Accommodations will be made to ensure residents in the area can still access their homes throughout the closure period.

City officials learned of the necessary closure during a recent meeting with the Arkansas Department of Transportation.
“While the timeline is unfortunate, we must close this section of Walnut Street to allow our crews to install new water and sewer lines for the Bypass Project,” City Manager Gary Brinkley said. “After we move the lines, ARDOT will be coming in to remove the bridge and install new culverts to make way for the bypass expansion.”
Led by ARDOT, the Arkadelphia Bypass Project is meant to improve safety, mobility, and connectivity around Arkadelphia and Clark County. This project has been in the works since 2019, but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Safety is our top priority,” Brinkley said. “We hate that this part of the project is going to take a year, but if that’s what is safest for our crews and residents, then that is what we’re going to do. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to make progress.”
Walnut Street at 10th and Highway 67 will close on Monday, July 29. Updates will be released as they become available.
