The Arkadelphia Board of Education on Tuesday will consider bids from a trio of prospective vendors aiming to upgrade the lights at Badger Stadium to include high-visibility LED bulbs.
In October the school board heard reports from administration that the existing bulbs are costing more and more each year for upgrades and maintenance. Asked then whether the district should budget for new lighting, it was said that the need wasn’t immediate but should be on the board’s radar.
The bids presented range from $177,760 to $338,640.
The lowest bidder is the Sports Lighting Group, based in Houston, Texas, at $175,000. That package includes 52 white LED lights and 12 colored lights.
GeoSport Lighting System, based in Gabriel, Louisiana, is offering three proposals, priced at $177,760, $209,380 and $261,775. Each of those proposals would include 64 fixtures for field lighting and 8 fixtures for egress and/or spectator areas. The highest-priced proposal would include an additional 16 colored lights and dynamic scene control for music tracks.
The highest bid is from the Gurdon-based Pilgreen Electrical Service, at $338,640. The specifications in Pilgreen’s project would retrofit existing poles with LED lighting and a colored show lighting package, controls and monitoring.
Also on the school board’s upcoming agenda are school improvement plans from each campus principal, approval of the district student handbook, using federal funds to purchase a Chromebook management system and the purchase of services for high-impact tutoring at Goza Middle School.
