Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders picked Pine Bluff to be the state’s Capital for a Day on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
Sanders’s proclamation notes that the Jefferson County seat of 41,000 residents is home to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff that was a “center of activism” during the Civil Rights Era.
Pine Bluff marks the 11th Arkansas city to be Capital for a Day, which brings top government officials to town to meet their local counterparts.
Sanders said, “Today, Pine Bluff remains a center of education, through UAPB, healthcare, through the Jefferson Regional Medical Center and the National Center for Toxicological Research, industry, with several factories in and around the city, and tourism, as the home of some of Arkansas’s oldest buildings and institutions.”
