Arkadelphia man ordered to pay restitution in Highway 7 death case

An Arkadelphia man pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges accusing him of holding a woman against her will in the final moments of her life.

In a negotiated guilty plea that was entered on April 5, 2024, Alvin Douglas Hill was ordered to pay $40,000 in restitution to the estate of Erin Williams.

Williams died March 26, 2022. The 23-year-old escaped Hill’s moving SUV as it traveled along Highway 7, about 10 miles east of Arkadelphia near the Palmetto Road junction. Before her escape she would phone 911 to relay to a dispatcher that she was being held against her will; soon after exiting the vehicle she was struck by a pickup truck towing a camper. She died at the scene.

Hill, now 68, was charged in October of that year on counts of first-degree false imprisonment and terroristic threatening. 9E Circuit Judge Blake Batson imposed a suspended sentence for Hill’s would-be combined prison sentence of 12 years. He was ordered at the final court appearance to pay $15,000 of the restitution at sentencing.

Representing Hill at sentencing was Malvern attorney Louis Loyd; 9E Prosecuting Attorney Dan Turner represented the state.
