8,017 people employed in Clark County as jobless rate dips slightly

Clark County’s unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, is at 4.7% for February 2024, according to a preliminary county-by-county report released by the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services.

According to the report, Clark County had a labor force of 8,416 persons with 8,017 employed and 399 unemployed in February. This compares to January’s labor force of 8,246 with 7,807 employed and 439 unemployed. The unemployment rate in Clark County fell six-tenths of a percentage point from 5.3% in January.

Clark County had the second-highest unemployment rate in the six-county area surveyed.

Statewide, Arkansas’s unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.6% in January, and the national jobless rate also dropped one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.8%.

Of the six neighboring Southwest Arkansas counties surveyed, each reported a decrease in jobless rates from January to February. Counties are listed with their county seats in parentheses: i.e., Clark County (Arkadelphia):

The unemployment rate for Dallas County (Fordyce) is at 4.1% for February, down from 4.7% in January. Dallas County reports a labor force of 2,614.

The unemployment rate for Hot Spring County (Malvern) is at 3.8% for February, down from 4.4% in January. Hot Spring County reports a labor force of 13,573.

The unemployment rate for Montgomery County (Mt. Ida) is at 5.2% for February, down from 6.1% in January. Montgomery County reports a labor force of 2,825.

The unemployment rate for Nevada County (Prescott) is at 4% in February, down from 4.5% in January. Nevada County reports a labor force of 3,308.

The unemployment rate for Ouachita County (Camden) is at 4.2% for February, down from 4.5% in January. Ouachita County reports a labor force of 9,684.

The unemployment rate for Pike County (Murfreesboro) is at 3.6% in February, down from 4.2% in January. Pike County reports a labor force of 3,943.
