
Norah Kopkau, a senior at Bismarck High School, took the top award in the 2023-24 Good Citizens competition sponsored by the Arkansas Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mendy Wright, ASDAR Good Citizens chairman, announced Saturday.
One of five Good Citizens from area high schools sponsored by the Arkadelphia Chapter of the NSDAR, Kopkau submitted an application that earned the highest marks from judges on the local level to qualify her entry into the state contest.
Competing with Good Citizens from high schools across the state, Kopkau’s winning submission included an essay on a specific topic, a grade transcript, letters of recommendation and a record of personal activities and service.
Aydsen Ray Johnston from Des Arc High School earned runner-up honors.
Faculty and students select each high school’s Good Citizen annually from the senior class based on leadership, dependability, service and patriotism.
At Bismarck High, Kopkau is a member of the tennis, softball and cross country teams, student council, Quiz Bowl, FBLA, Beta Club, Chess Club, Art Club and Drama Club. She is the daughter of Melissa Black, Evan Black and Cord Kopkau.
