Arkadelphia GriefShare sessions start Feb. 19

Starting Feb. 19, Arkadelphia’s First Baptist Church will offer 13 weeks of a widely respected ministry, GriefShare, for anyone who has experienced the loss of a spouse, child, family member or friend.

Thirteen weekly meetings will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Mondays from Feb. 19-May 13 near the FBC Fellowship Hall, off the church’s Eighth Street entrance, in room 112. Register and find more details on the non-denominational ministry at www.griefshare.org or call Steve Garner at 870-464-7204 or Brenda Sutley at 706-457-2721.

More than 20,000 churches throughout the U.S., Canada and 10 other countries have hosted GriefShare sessions since 1998. Each session features a 30-minute information-packed video. Then, local participants discuss the video content. A workbook offers journaling and personal study exercises that reinforce weekly session topics.

Topic titles include Grief and Your Relationships, Challenges of Grief, the Journey of Grief, Guilt and Anger, Lessons of Grief, and What Do I Live for Now? FBC first offered GriefShare from September-December 2022.

“GriefShare is for anyone from any walk of life who has had a loss,” said Sutley, one of five local leaders. “That loss can be recent or several years in the past. I think many people don’t allow themselves to talk about their grief. In GriefShare, you’ll find others who are struggling to find a way forward. GriefShare is a safe and welcoming space for people who understand what you’re feeling.”

Participants are welcome to begin attending the FBC GriefShare group at any point. Each session is “self-contained,” but participants are also able to replay missed videos over the 13-week cycle. GriefShare encourages participants to experience a “journey from mourning to joy.” It’s also based on the idea that grief lingers for months and even years after a loss.
