Martha Bearden

Martha Lula Bearden, 89, of Gurdon passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 in Arkadelphia.

Mrs. Bearden was born April 8, 1934 to Frank Henry Wheeler and Ileta Mae Tunnell in Nevada County, Arkansas.

She retired from the Gurdon School District as a cook and worked at the Senior Citizens Center in Gurdon. She dearly loved her family and church family at New Caney Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and was known for her chocolate crème pie.

Mrs. Bearden was preceded by her parents; husband of 60 years, Lawrence Edwin Bearden; and brother, Charles Wheeler.

Mrs. Bearden is survived by four sons, Ronald Bearden of New Mexico, Darrell Bearden of Arkadelphia, Curtis Bearden (Sandy) of Okolona, Christopher Bearden (Telma) of Arizona; two daughters, Sue Blanchard of Arizona and Freda Short (Robert) of Gurdon; a sister, Virgie Metts of Lenexa, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Visitation is scheduled 11:00am Friday, December 1, 2023 at Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home in Gurdon. Funeral Service following at 1:00pm with Bro. Kenneth Beaver officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Gurdon, under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Homes-Gurdon.
