Tigers pitcher earns national recognition

Ouachita Baptist University’s Cooper Timmons has been selected the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Pitcher of the Week.

The League City, Texas native is the first national player or pitcher of the week from the Great American Conference this season. He was named the NCBWA’s Central Region Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday after tossing a complete-game shutout over Harding this past Friday in a 7-0 victory in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament.

In that win over Harding, Timmons tossed his first career shutout and eighth complete game. He struck out a career-high 13, surpassing 100 for the season and 250 for his career in the process. He now has 109 strikeouts this season, which ranks sixth in the nation, and 253 for his career. He ranks second at Ouachita in both strikeout categories.
