Tigers go 2-1 at GLVC duals

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — The Ouachita Baptist University wrestling team went 2-1 on Sunday at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Duals, earning wins over Quincy and Davenport and falling to Maryville.

The Tigers started the day with a 27-18 victory over Quincy and ended the day with a 42-7 win over Davenport. In between, Maryville defeated Ouachita by a final score of 40-3.

Johnny Green led the Tigers on Sunday with a 2-0 record in the 285 division, pinning Quincy’s Matthew Ludwig in 55 seconds and earning a sudden victory in extra time over Maryville’s Ryan Herman by a score of 3-1.

Zander Fields went 2-1 in the 149 division, highlighted by a 10-8 win by decision over Quincy’s Julian Solis and a win by fall in 2:31 over Davenport’s Deegan Herman.

Cole Eason went 2-1 in the 174 division, spotlighted by an 8-5 win by decision over Quincy’s Ricardo Adame and a win by fall in 1:47 over Davenport’s Travis Marsh.

The Tigers wrap up the regular season at 7-6 overall in duals and 4-3 in GLVC competition, the best finish for the program since becoming an associate member of the GLVC in 2018.

Ouachita is now set to compete at the NCAA Super Regionals meet on February 26 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
