RUSSELLVILLE — Ouachita Baptist University linebacker Jax Miller has been named the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Tigers beat then-ranked No. 7 Harding this past Saturday by a final score of 21-13.

Miller registered an NCAA-era school record 21 tackles in Ouachita’s win over Harding. He had four solo stops and 17 assisted tackles. It was just the second 20-tackle performance in Ouachita’s tenure as a member of the NCAA Division II. Elijah Jones had 20 in a 40-37 win over Southern Arkansas in 2016.

Miller helped Ouachita’s defense limit Harding’s offense to just 4.8 yards per play, which was two yards less than what the Bisons were averaging prior to the game. Of Harding’s 68 total plays, Miller was a force in nearly a third, keeping the Bisons from extending drives and allowing the Tigers’ offense to get back on the field.

The Keithville, Louisiana native and the rest of the Tiger defense forced Harding to punt three times and forced turnovers on downs on another three drives, which represented all but three of the Bison possessions.

Ouachita is 4-0 for the 17th time in program history, and looks to make that 5-0 this Saturday, October 1 with its longest road trip of the season to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Alva, Oklahoma.
