Reddies win season opener by 19 strokes

MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma — The Henderson State men’s golf program opened the 2022 season in Muskogee, Oklahoma, winning the 24th Annual NSU Golf Classic hosted by Northeastern St. by 19 strokes, carding a 15-under 837. Second-place Washburn posted a 4-over 856.

After setting a single round program record with a 16-under 268, HSU held onto their lead that they had coming into the day as three Reddie golfers shot sub-par final rounds.

Nathan Cossement tied Alex Hadden for the lowest round of the day for Henderson as both golfers shot 2-under 69s. Cossement, who also shot a 5-under 66 in the second round, placed third as he finished with a 54-hole score of 6-under 207 in what was his highest collegiate finish.

Miller Harris was the most consistent Reddie golfer across the two days, shooting a 6-under 65 and an even-par 71 before closing out the tournament with a 1-over 72 to finish fourth, carding a 5-under 208.

Hadden and Josh McNulty both finished at 2-under 211 for a spot at ninth place. Hadden and McNutly each overcame slow starts as the pair shot 5-over 76s in the first round before carding 7-under 135s over the final 36 holes.

Junior transfer Kanapos Visuttipinate, in his first tournament as a Reddie, finished out the five-bag with a 15-over 228, tying for 68th place.

Henderson St. will return to the Sooner State for its next tournament as it heads to Monkey Island, Oklahoma for the MSSU Fall Invitational hosted by Missouri Southern St. Sept. 26-27.
