Highway 8 wreck kills South Arkansas woman

NEW EDINBURG — A Crossett woman was killed and two others were injured in an early morning car accident in rural Cleveland County on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022.

According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary, Makaylee D. Neal, 19, of Crossett, was driving a westbound 2015 Chevy Cruze on state Highway 8 east of New Edinburg when she crossed over the center line “for reasons unknown” and into the path of an eastbound 2022 Toyota Corolla.

Neal was killed in the accident. A minor in her vehicle was injured, along with the driver of the eastbound vehicle, Holly A. Harrell, 49, of New Edinburg. The injured were transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, and Neal’s body was being held at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce.

The accident occurred at 5:20 a.m. on a clear morning with dry roads, according to Cpl. Brian Dixon who investigated the accident.
