Edwin L. Swan

Edwin L. Swan was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on Tuesday, September 7, 1993, to Monica J. Swan and Marvin Griswold. He accepted Christ and was baptized on June 20, 2001, at New Bethel Baptist Church in Crossett under the pastorate of the late Rev. B.J. Jackson.

He attended Crossett High School and later went on to Job Corps in Little Rock, where he attained his high school diploma and certified nurse assistant certification on April 28, 2013.

In the summer of 2017, Ed decided to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, and would have graduated in December 2022 with a 3.87 GPA.

Ed was a person who loved to travel and he never met any strangers. He could and did make friends with anyone if allowed to. Ed made friends with all races, genders and people from all walks of life.

He was an avid sports lover, especially of football and basketball. His favorite college team was the Arkansas Razorbacks, his favorite NFL Team was the Los Angeles Chargers, and his favorite basketball team was the Boston Celtics.

Ed is preceded in death by his grandfather, John Hollins (2014).

His life was exciting, joyful and truly sincere in heart. The memory of his existence will forever be woven into the lives of those who were blessed to know him. He leaves to cherish his memories; his mother, Monica Swan-Giles (James) of Arkadelphia; his father, Marvin Griswold (Erica) of Pine Bluff; one son, Bryan Isaiah Swan of Little Rock; four brothers, Demarkus Swan (Hattie) of Crossett, Braylon Griswold and Dillion Iverson, both of Pine Bluff, and James Giles Jr., of Benton; three sisters, Arentynn Winters of Little Rock, Nakya Griswold of Pine Bluff, and Christian Nicole Giles of Arkadelphia; grandparents, Juanita Hollins of Crossett, Annie Griswold of Dumas, and Charles Griswold of Houston, Texas; three uncles, Chansolar Hollins (Joycelyn) of Bastrop, La., Jeffery Griswold (Taushia) of Jackson, Tenn., and Steven Mitchell (Tonya) of Monticello, Ark.; eight aunts, Regina Webb (Terry) and Marquita Steele of Kansas City, Mo., Tina Hall (Calvin) of San Antonio, Texas, La Sonya Davis (Brandon) of Pine Bluff, Kristi Griswold of College Station, Texas, Kimbla Calvin of Dumas, Tonya Pugh of Dallas, Texas, and Krystal Kennedy (Jordann) of Dallas, Texas; great-great uncles and aunts Harvey Randolph of Helena, Elizabeth Wyatt of Hope, and Edna Hardaway (Earl) of Crossett; six god sisters; a host of cousins; numerous relatives; countless friends; and a very special friend of the family, Antoinette Johnson.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, at Gate Chapel AME Church, 305 W. Third Ave., Crossett, AR with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Gates Chapel AME Church with Rev. Harriel D. White III. officiating and Presiding Elder – Crossett District / Pastor – Gates Chapel AME Church and Rev. James H. Giles Sr., Presiding Elder – Hot Springs/Arkadelphia District, eulogist. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery in Crossett.

Active pallbearers will be Devon Block, Amos Wallace, Marquis Lewis, Marquis Martin, J. D. Nubles, J. R. Lewis, Julian Craig and Kevin Fondren, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Roderic Randolph, Bernard Martin, Bobby Joe McDaniels, Chansolar Hollins, Robert Southall, Vante Johnson, De Andre Click. Byrious Hughes and Zae Kendrix.
