Juvenile killed in rollover on Hwy 270

One person was killed in a Labor Day crash that sent three others to the hospital with injuries.

According to an Arkansas State Police fatal crash summary, a juvenile was ejected from a 2013 Dodge Caravan whose driver left the roadway and ramped a driveway. 

The accident happened at 8:09 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, on US Highway 270 East in rural Hot Spring County. The report notes the westbound minivan struck a large oak tree after ramping the driveway, ejecting the minor.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old David Lee Collins, of Jonesboro, was trapped inside the vehicle until emergency personnel were able to extricate him. Collins and Evan Danielle Watson, 27, of Malvern, were both transported to St. Vincent UAMS hospital in Hot Springs for serious injuries. A second juvenile passenger had minor cuts and abrasions, according to the report.

The deceased was being held at the Hot Spring County coroner’s office.

Weather and road conditions were clear and dry, according to Sr. Cpl. Edward Church who investigated the accident.
