KARK on Friday reported on an unnamed Little Rock woman accused (but not yet charged) with selling and shipping an array of body parts to a man in Pennsylvania. The transaction took place on Facebook Messenger. In exchange for $4,000 the woman reportedly shipped three human brains, a heart, a liver and hands to the buyer, whose mugshot was of a man with tattoos completely covering one side of his face. The body parts sent had been donated to UAMS for research, and were removed from the central Arkansas research hospital. The buyer also was in possession of at least a dozen human skulls and three complete skeletons. Reminds us of a Blind Melon song (caution: kazoo ahead) written about serial killer Ed Gein who collected human body parts.
What does $4 get you in August 2022? A half-gallon of Walmart’s house brand bleach.
Speaking of Walmart, the retail giant is among countless other corporations nationwide laying off its workers. The Bentonville-based Walmart is sending 200 of its corporate workers home over concerns of inflation and sagging customer spending. Maybe if Walmart weren’t so damned proud of its Great Value bleach, more customers would be willing to pay. Just a thought. And speaking of overpriced cleaning agents, we’ve recently taken a DIY approach to whipping up batches of floor cleaner, granite cleaner, toilet cleaner and others. All of these aforementioned cleaners are simple recipes that include common household ingredients like baking soda, dish detergent, vinegar and/or essential oils. Give it a shot by Googling “natural _______ cleaner” and let us know how it works.
This week we spoke with our police chief and published a how-to guide in hopes to help parents better navigate the first few hectic days of back-to-school traffic in Arkadelphia. We saw some comments on Facebook related to that story, and it sounds like the drop-off and pick-up line at Goza Middle School’s new campus is the most challenging. Back in our newspaper days (a few superintendents ago), we reported on what a mess school traffic was on the first day of school. That article didn’t settle well with some of the school district administrators, and we received a verbal lashing from a dear friend who worked at the time in administration. We didn’t speak for months after that, but just like school traffic everything smoothed out after a while. Our advice to parents new to the school district: be patient, and in a week or two the process will no longer feel like a migraine-inducing task.
The Arkadelphia Lions Club invited us as a guest this week to hear about the Keeping DeGray Lake Beautiful organization, which is in dire need of manpower to tackle the shorelines next month. Among the volunteers lost in recent years includes the student group from Henderson State University’s Simonson Biological Field Station. We attended this lakeside research facility’s groundbreaking ceremony in our newspaper days, and quite honestly hadn’t put much thought into the place until we overheard a couple of Lions discussing what would become of this three-story log-cabin structure in the absence of Henderson’s biology program. We asked HSU’s communications and marketing team about the field station’s future. Here’s the response we got: “The university will be working on a management plan for the field station in the coming months.”

Four dollars for a half gallon of Walmart brand bleach definitely comes under the category of getting skinned. That’s outrageous! Sounds comparable to prices at the Kroger Marketplace in Benton. Hold on to your pocketbook if you shop there.
