Memorial Day event planned at courthouse

By The Arkadelphian

The public is invited to attend a Memorial Day service Monday morning at the Clark County Courthouse lawn.

The guest speaker for the 2022 event will be retired Col. Thomas Blackerby.

The event will commence at 11 a.m. with opening remarks from Doyle Sharp, followed by posting of the colors by Arkadelphia High School JROTC. The Rev. Llewellyn E. Terry Sr. will deliver an opening prayer, and Meldene Ivory will give a welcome.

JROTC’s Mikayla Nelson will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Georgina Battle Wright will sing “Star-Spangled Banner.” Col. Phil Foster will be in charge of the JROTC report.

Sharp will then give a roll call of fallen soldiers. A sounding of church bells will follow the roll call, and Robert Davis and Clark County Judge Troy Tucker will post the memorial wreath. JROTC’s Perry Nelson will play “Taps” before Michael Lester introduces Blackerby as the speaker.

Following Blackerby’s speech, Louis Craig, county veteran services officer, will offer remarks with closing remarks and benediction from Sharp.
