Ruby Faydra Fontaine, age 92, went peacefully to meet our Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Woodland Hills of Jacksonville. She was born September 28, 1929. Ruby was the youngest of five children born to Thurston and Dovie Stuart of Prescott. Ruby grew up in the Nubbin Hill and Pleasant Hill communities. She attended Pleasant Hill School. She was a wonderful and remarkable wife for 45 years, a sister, and a very loved Granny to many grand and great-grandchildren.
Ruby worked at Lonestar Ammunition in Texarkana, Shan House Garment Factory and the Generator Plant in Hope. After marrying Thomas Fontaine in 1971, Ruby and Tom moved to Mineral Springs, where she worked as a seamstress and a baker. In 1977, they moved backed to Prescott, where she went to work at the Garment Factory until it closed a few years later. She then worked at Prescott Elementary School as a cook until she became disabled. When she “retired”, she said “now I can do all the sewing, quilting, crafts, and learn how to do more things in different art forms because she had all the time in the world.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Henry Thurston Jr.; her sisters, Marie Ridgell, Jamie (Sis) Hendrix and Dessie Andrews; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends and family. Ruby was a conversationalist to the point she never met a stranger. She is now to be laid to rest with mostly family but also friends.
She is survived by four sons, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of friends. The sons are Ronnie Collins and wife Diane of Little Rock, John Henry Collins of Murfreesboro, Don Collins and wife Marlyn of Prescott, Lonnie Joe Huntley and wife Julie of Sherwood; four stepsons and one stepdaughter: Thomas Fontaine Jr. and wife Wanda of Weatherford, Texas, James Fontaine and wife Mange of Killeen, Texas, Roy Fontaine and wife Sukanya of Udon Thani, Thailand, Ken Fontaine and wife Dawn of Mt. Pleasant, Utah; and her stepdaughter, Marlyn Fontaine Langley and husband Glenn of Denham Springs, La.
