ARKADELPHIA — In less than one season, freshman Aspen Thornton has eclipsed the 500-point mark for her young career at Ouachita Baptist University.
The Hot Springs native accomplished the milestone with 22 points in Saturday’s 80-56 loss to 24th-ranked Southwestern Oklahoma State at home, the second Tiger to move past 500 career points this season. Junior Makayla Miller made it to the 500-point mark on the road earlier this season against Southern Arkansas on December 11. Miller now sits at 743 points, and is on pace to reach 1,000 during her senior season.
Thornton’s 517 points this year ranks second on the Ouachita single-season charts behind only Jamie Scheppman’s 608 points during the 1999-00 campaign.
As for Saturday’s game, the Tigers battled the first place Bulldogs to a single-digit deficit at the five-minute media timeout of the fourth period, but SWOSU outscored Ouachita 23-6 in the final four minutes for the lop-sided win.
In addition to Thornton’s game-high 22 points, Miller added 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

The Tigers are on the road next week, traveling to Ada, Oklahoma to face off against East Central on Thursday, February 17, and then to Durant on Saturday to play Southeastern Oklahoma State.
